Quizzing – “A Start”…..

I guess this would be a good start for the blog. Let me first introduce you on what “quizzing” is all about.

Quizzes are a kind of a “mind sport” where either individuals or teams will compete and attempt to answer questions correctly. 

Questions are usually set on a wide array of study areas which would usually include, Current Affairs, Sports, Arts & Literature, History, Geography, Astronomy, Science & Technology etc.

Thus to succeed, individuals or teams will have to possess in depth level of knowledge on the study areas discussed above.

Studying on the fields that I discussed above could be carried out by referring to materials (in newspapers, magazines, websites – where we usually get ourselves updated on the Current Affairs), Books (written on quizzing, Guinness Book of Records etc.) and discussing among team members.

About quiz contests, with my experience they are held at school level, mercantile (corporate) level, country level (Annual TMC Quiz) and international level (Annual World Quizzing Championship; (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_Quizzing_Championship). Some competitions require contestants to compete as individuals while some are competed at team level.

In Sri Lanka we now live in an era where we see the emergence of “Reality Quiz Shows”. One of such premier reality quiz show is “DFCC Mindstar” (http://www.facebook.com/pages/DFCC-MindStar/377540372968?ref=ts).
