Some interesting facts about the South American continent;
- It is home to the world's highest waterfall, Angel Falls in Venezuela; the largest river (by volume), the Amazon River; the longest mountain range, the Andes (whose highest mountain is Aconcagua at 6,962 m).
- South America has the world’s driest place – Atacama Desert in Chile.
- It has the capital which is located at the highest point throughout the world – La Paz, Bolivia.
- It also has the highest commercially navigable lake in the world – Lake Titicaca.
- Bolivia and Paraguay are the only two landlocked countries in South America.
- A declared world heritage, Galapagos Islands is a part of South America and is owned by Ecuador.
- Few countries in the continent gained independence in the 20th century. Guyana, from the United Kingdom in 1966, Suriname, from Dutch control in 1975 while The Falkland Islands remain a sovereign territory of the United Kingdom.
