South America....

 Time to switch back to the topic of world countries and capitals. We’ve looked at Asia and Europe before this, and now I thought of brining up one of the most fascinating continents of the world, the South Americas.

Since the list of countries that are there in South America is pretty small, I thought of listing some other interesting facts about the region which could be interesting in a quizzer’s perspective. Let’s have a look.

Some interesting facts about the South American continent;
  • It is home to the world's highest waterfall, Angel Falls in Venezuela; the largest river (by volume), the Amazon River; the longest mountain range, the Andes (whose highest mountain is Aconcagua at 6,962 m).
  • South America has the world’s driest place – Atacama Desert in Chile.
  • It has the capital which is located at the highest point throughout the world – La Paz, Bolivia.
  • It also has the highest commercially navigable lake in the world – Lake Titicaca.
  • Bolivia and Paraguay are the only two landlocked countries in South America.
  • A declared world heritage, Galapagos Islands is a part of South America and is owned by Ecuador.
  • Few countries in the continent gained independence in the 20th century. Guyana, from the United Kingdom in 1966, Suriname, from Dutch control in 1975 while The Falkland Islands remain a sovereign territory of the United Kingdom.
