Flags of the World...

Hope my previous article on the major stock exchanges of the world was interesting for you..with that I thought of posting another article on the area of General Knowledge.

National Flags of the World
Well, during the school days, with the quiz competitions I took part, and also with the experience of some of the TV quizzes which were organized for schools, it has to be said that the questions on the national flags of the countries of the world is an area which tested heavily.

This article is focused mainly to identify the special features that are there in the national flags of the countries, which make them stand different over the others. So here we go.
  • The study of flags is known as vexillology.
  • The flag of Nepal is the only national flag which is non-rectangular.

  • The flags of Switzerland and the Vatican City are the only national flags which are exact squares.

  • The flag of Libya is the only national flag which consists of just one solid color (green) with no other designs or symbols.

  • The flags of Cyprus, Kosovo, and Christmas Island are the only national flags which depict the shape of the country that it represents.

  • The flags of Moldova, Paraguay and Saudi Arabia are not identical on their obverse and reverse sides.
  • The flag of Mozambique is the only national flag to incorporate an actual modern firearm into its design (an AK-47).

  • The flag of the Philippines is the only flag which may be hoisted upside-down when the Filipino Congress has declared the nation to be in a "state of war". The reverse case is true for peacetime, when the flag is hoisted with blue stripe over the red. The peacetime arrangement is the more conventional method for displaying this flag unless the situation calls for otherwise.

  • The flag of Denmark is the oldest state flag still in use (dates back to the 13th century). This flag, is uniquely identified as”Dannebrog”.

  • The flag of Bhutan features a dragon, which is named as “Druk”, the Thunder Dragon of Bhutanese mythology.

  • The flag of Guatemala has the emblem of the national bird of the country, the Resplendent Quetzal.

  1. What about the flag of Sri Lanka? It has a lion in it... An animal that is extinct in Sri Lanka.

It won't hurt to mention that the lion is holding a sword either.

    Cool post, though.

"The flags of Moldova, Paraguay and Saudi Arabia are not identical on their obverse and reverse sides. " I don't really get what you meant.
In my view there are many more falgs without identical on reverse on obverse eg. Bhutan, Sri Lanka

  6. Well thanks for the comments first...What I meant about the three national flags of Moldova, Paraguay and Saudi Arabia is that they've got two different emblems each on the two sides of the flag.
