Waterfalls in the World & Sri Lanka

  •  Angel Falls
Located in Venezuela, Angel Falls is the World’s highest waterfall (with a height of 979m). The waterfall was given its name as a tribute to Jimmie Angel who discovered it in the 12th century. The base of the falls feeds into the Kerep River (alternatively known as the Río Gauya), which flows into the Churun River, a tributary of the Carrao River. The mountain from which Angel Falls’ largest drop falls is identified as “Devil’s Mountain”.

  • The highest waterfall of Sri Lanka, Bambarakanda Falls has a height of 263m, and is ranked at 299th interms of the highest waterfalls throughout the world. The waterfall was formed by Kuda Oya, which is a branch of the Walawe River.

Built by the ancient Romans, and with a height of 165m, this waterfall is considered as the tallest “man-made” waterfall in the world.

  • Niagara Falls
Niagara Falls lies between the border of the US State, New York and the Canadian Province, Ontario. The two major waterfalls which form Niagara are identified as “American Falls” and “Horseshoe Falls”.

  • The world’s second highest waterfall located in the province of Kwa-zulu Natal in South Africa is Tugela Falls. Its height is identified as 948m approximately. The source of the waterfall is Tugela River.

  • Victoria Falls
Identified as one of the major tourist attractions in Africa, Victoria Falls lies on Zambezi River, and between the African nations Zambia and Zimbabwe. With a height of 108m, Victoria Falls was discovered by the renowned expeditor, David Livingstone.
